Top 10 attractions: Sagrada Familia

The unfinished symbol of Barcelona. From here you can follow Gaudí’s footsteps to his key work, the Sagrada Família, an unfinished architectural compendium which has become the symbol of Barcelona. The Sagrada Família is Antoni Gaudí’s best-known work and has become an undisputed symbol of Barcelona. This unique modern temple has been under construction since 1882 and is expected to be completed by 2026.

When the new stadium first opened in 1957, it had a capacity for just over 93,000 spectators. In 1982, the stadium increased its capacity to hold 115,000 fans and hosted the first game of the World Cup that year.

Attend a Barça game, or you can take a tour of the stadium that includes the field, the pressroom, and the changing room. The FC Barcelona Museum includes a trophy gallery and an audiovisual space dedicated to replays and the history of the Barça team and Camp Nou. You won’t believe it, but this is actually the most visited museum in Barcelona.

Eusebi Güell gave Gaudí the assignment of drawing up plans for developing an estate for well-off families on a large property he had acquired in the zone known popularly as the Muntanya Pelada (bare mountain). Its location was unbeatable, in a healthy setting and with splendid views over the sea and the Plain of Barcelona. Today, it’s a beautiful garden also declared Wold Heritage and one of Gaudí’s most important works.

This museum was created by the artist himself and his close friend, Jaume Sabartès. It shows the artist’s formative years along with an extensive program of temporary exhibitions.

La Rambla

This is perhaps the most famous and busy street in Barcelona. It starts at Plaza Catalunya at the city center and goes all the way down to the Port. If you stroll down this street you’ll find the Boquería, the Liceu Opera House, the Teatre Principal and at the end, the monument of Colombus pointing to America.

La Boquería

It has become the most famous market of Barcelona and very popular among tourists. It’s located on La Rambla, the biggest market in Catalonia with more than 300 stalls and a surface area of 2.583 square meters. After strolling around you can get a bite of the Spanish typical dishes.

Montjuic

Montjuïc mountain is the perfect place for a leafy stroll with great views, but it does take a bit of legwork to get up there, so it’s less populated by tourists. But don’t let that deter you. Aside from the natural surroundings and spectacular vistas, you’ll find buildings from the 1992 Olympic Games, including the Palau Sant Jordi and the telecommunications tower designed by Santiago Calatrava.

If you’re feeling full of beans and you get to the top of the hill, you can check out the Olympic stadium and the Jardi Botànic. Plaça Espanya, at the foot of Montjuïc, is the most common access point to the mountain, and where you can also visit the Pavelló Mies van der Rohe and the CaixaForum cultural center.

Top 10 attractions: Casa Milà

This amazing building created by the genius that can almost put his name on the city is declared a World Heritage Site. It’s also known as La Pedrera, full of references to marine life and myths, its one of Barcelona’s favorite modernist buildings.

Parc de la Ciutadella

This park is very popular with the locals. There is a lot to see because inside the park you find: the zoo, the Catalan Parliament buildings, a church, a lake, a band-stand… It’s definitely worth it to go there and spend a morning in the sun with a cold beer!

El Tibidabo

The Tibitado es Barcelona’s only amusement park, but a very special one: It’s one of the oldest in the world. This gives the park a bit of vintage magic and makes it very photogenic.

Don’t forget your camera because the Tibidabo is located on the highest point of Barcelona and the views are absolutely stunning.
