You’re probably thinking why on earth do I need a guide to go to the Sitges beaches, they are just beaches, right? Well, that’s absolutely true! But with this guide it will take you 10 minutes what took me years. So I’m going to spare you the search and hand you in the magic guide to find your next favorite beach in Mediterranean Coast. After reading this, you’ll know EXACTLY where you are going to spend you holidays.
How are we going to do this?
Well, we’ve put together a cool infographic with all the beaches in and arround Sitges with everything you need to know about them.
In Sitges you can find two types of beaches: urban beaches that you will find in the city center and the more hidden beaches that are harder to find, but don’t worry we know all the secrets of this little town.
Sitges Beaches inside the city
This is an artificial beach located in front of the Hotel Terramar. It was created 20 years ago as a private beach for the costumers of the hotel but nowadays it’s public and open to everybody. This beach is almost 160 m long and it’s equipped with the typical spanish chiringuito (small bar on the beach). This is the place to be for sporty people because here you’ll find a kayak school where you can take different clases or just rent a kayak or a paddle board and have some fun in the water. There is an access ramp for disabled.

Terramar Sitges Beach, children’s paradise
Terramar is another urban beach located in front of the residential neighborhood it’s just next to Platja d’Anquines. The funny thing about this beach are the four artificial islands that were made to protect the sand from fading away. But besides from their utility kids love to play on these little islands pretending they are Pirates from the Seven Seas. A real family beach to enjoy on a lazy sunday!
On the picture below you can check out the main chiringuito of Terramar while the kids are making a castle in the sand, mammy and daddy can enjoy a real gin tonic.
Platja de les Anquines
This beach is located at the end of the bustling promenade in central Sitges. It covers the area directly in front of Hotel Terramar. It was created artificially in the 1920s to service the hotel. Nestled between 2 stone piers, Playa de les Anquines is approximately 160 metres long and 50 metres wide. Its position between stones piers give it a pool-like feel. As a result, it is very popular with tourists and families. It can get quite busy for this reason, so be sure to arrive early. There are sun loungers and umbrellas for rent, perfect for spending a day at the beach. Not only that, you are surrounded by beachfront restaurants. This beach is perfect if you’re spending the day with the kids and need something easily accessible and convenient.
How to get there: It is centrally located at Passeig Marítim, 80, 08870 Sitges, Barcelona. You can arrive by R14 and R2S train and also via the SL2 bus.
Get a massage in Barra Beach!
This is a big one! The beach is almost 400 meters long and 25 meter wide. Here you will also find some islands to protect the sand. This beach hast everything you need to spend the day. There are two big chiringuitos where you can also grab something to eat. You can hire hammocks to relax while the kids play in the water in a paddle boat.

Riera Xica and Estanyol Beach
Riera Xica is located in front of the neighborhood el Vinyet, also a pretty big beach where you can find paddle boat rental, hammocks and umberellas. Two chiringuitos are open all day so you can get a nice fresh beer or sangria. Estanyol beach also in front of the residential area of Vinyet, just like the beach of Riera Xica. This is one of the great things of the urban beaches of Sitges, you can jump from one beach to another. You’ll find three different bars at this beach and rental of paddle boats and hammocks.

Gay-friendly “Bassa Rodona”
Sitges is a popular destination amogst the gay community and within Sitges this is probably their favorite place. Bassa Rodona (part of Platja de la Ribera, just past the breakwater) is the most gay-popular beach. It’s extremely easy to find, the multi-colored flags will guide you! From the town, walk along the promenade to the third beach zone, it’s just in front of the Hotel Calipolis. In peak season, the area is packed, so if you want a sun bed, it’s best to arrive before lunch.
The beach has nice bar that serves drinks all day long and there is music from around 4pm. Immediately behind the beach is the Picnic cafe & restaurant. Picnic is open all day long serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are free toilets on the roadside next to the bar.

Ribera Beach: perfect for kids
This beach is literaly in the center of the city and accesible from “Paseo de la Ribera”. The envoirement in quiet and adequate for kids and families. It’s good to good during the week because a lot of people for other villages come in the weekends to this beach. But we have to say the golden sand and the transparent water of this beach make it 100% worth it. The beach has all the necesary ameneties like hammock rental, a nice chiringuito and also first aid stand, showers, toilets, etc.
“La Fragata” Beach
La Fragata is the closest beach to the town church of Santa Tecla. As a very positive thing we can say that its very close to public transport, 500 mts from the train station, on the other side finding a parking spot is very difficult and normally you have to pay for you spot. If your into beach volley this is going to be your favorite beach. There is a big volley net and every you’ll find people playing.
La ubicació central la converteix en un punt de trobada animat on us podeu barrejar tant amb turistes com amb locals. Situada just a sota de l'església de Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla, aquesta és una de les platges més cèntriques. Amb 120 metres de llarg i 25 metres d'amplada, és un lloc molt popular tant per a famílies de vacances com per a joves locals. Els serveis inclouen xarxes de voleibol, dutxes, guinguetes, socorristes i accés per a rampes.
Com arribar-hi: Situat a la platja de la Fragata, 08870 Sitges, Barcelona. En tren, agafeu la línia R2S i baixeu a Sitges. Des d'allà, hi ha uns 7 minuts a peu.
La Cala Vallcarca
Busques una platja on puguis portar el teu gos? La Cala Vallcarca és una platja petita, de només 70 metres de llarg i 15 metres d'amplada. Situada entre Sitges i Garraf, és el lloc perfecte perquè el teu amic de quatre potes es refresqui.
Com arribar-hi: Aquesta platja única es troba a Cala Vallcarca, 08872 Sitges, Barcelona. Malauradament, no s'hi pot accedir fàcilment amb transport públic, ja que no hi ha accés directe en autobús, tren o metro. En cotxe, agafeu la C-31 o la C-32. Hi ha una mica d'aparcament disponible.
Platja del Garraf
Situada al acollidor i antic poble de pescadors de Garraf, aquesta platja és un lloc agradable i tranquil per relaxar-se i desconnectar durant el dia. A només sis minuts en tren de Sitges, la platja està ubicada dins d'una badia, amb el poble situat damunt seu. La sorra és daurada i fina, i hi ha una sèrie de bons restaurants amb vista al mar. Aquest bell litoral ofereix petites cales envoltades de penya-segats i el Massís del Garraf. Té 380 metres de llarg i aproximadament 28 metres d'amplada. La presència de socorristes la fa popular entre les famílies.
Com arribar-hi: Està situat al sud de Barcelona, entre Castelldefels i Sitges. En cotxe, podeu agafar les autovies C-31 i C-32. En tren, la línia R2S us hi pot portar en uns 50 minuts.
Platja de Sant Sebastià
This urban beach is located in the district of Sant Sebastià, of seafaring tradition. It’s definitely a family beach where townsfolk goes a lot. There is always a lifeguard, of course a beach bar and umbrellas and hammocks rental.
This beach has showers and footbaths powered by card, you must ask for the cardsat the beach bar and a symbolic bond is deposited. The card has 400 seconds of “shower” and you have to put the card into the reader shower or lavapies to leave the water. The card can be recharged or return to the snack bar to be reused.
Popular with the locals, it has a lovely promenade with terraces overlooking the beach. One of the oldest beaches, Playa Sant Sebastià was home to the first co-ed bathing area, during a time when public bathing was still frowned upon in Spain. Beachside bars with table service, called guinguetes, ofereix menjar i begudes. Altres serveis inclouen accés per a rampes, dutxes i banys.
Com arribar-hi: Està situat al Carrer de Port Alegre, 08870 Sitges, Barcelona. Agafeu el metro fins a Barceloneta (Línia Groga, L4). Un cop sortiu de l'estació de metro, seguiu el Passeig de Joan de Borbó durant uns 10 minuts.
Aiguadolç Beach
Aiguadolç és una platja petita, de forma triangular, situada just darrere del animat port de Sitges. Els turons que l'envolten li donen una bellesa única i pintoresca. És una platja familiar amb servei de salvament, rampes d'accés, para-sols i diverses activitats aquàtiques de lloguer. Dinar o prendre un còctel vora mar és fàcil i còmode, i hi ha aparcament a prop. La platja també és molt popular entre els surfistes. Si tot just esteu començant, les onades de baix impacte d'aquí la fan ideal per a principiants. Té 20 metres de llarg i 22 metres d'amplada.
It’s located next to the Harbour of Aiguadolç and this is very good news! There is a new ferry conecting Barcelona and Sitges in only 30 minuts. The company offering this service is Bluemar Ferries and they will connect the two cities with between four and six daily connections with prices from 17 euros for a single ticket. Sitges and Barcelona are closer than ever and there is no denial, the trip is beautiful!
Com arribar-hi: Està situat a l'Av. del Port d’Aiguadolç, 8, 08870 Sitges, Barcelona. S'hi pot arribar en unes 35 hores en cotxe. És menys accessible en transport públic, però és possible. Agafeu el tren R2S fins a Sitges i des d'allà agafeu el bus SL3 fins a Port Aiguadolç.
Beaches outside the city
That’s how we would describe L’home mort beach.
Gay naturist beach, nudist mainly formed by the Home Mort beach and the Roses Beach. It is accessed by a difficult trail that will take you between 30 minuts from the city to 1 hour (depending on how fast you are, of course!) But the reward is that this beach won’t be completly full, even in summer days there is privacy, you could almost call it your own private beach. Its located below the railway line and south of the Atlantis nightclub.
CONSELL: Wear good walking shoes, it’s not the best idea to walk to this beach on your flip-flops you will probably hurt yourself and scratch your feet!
I la bona notícia és: Even though the beach is far it has a chiringuito! (You will notice that the Spaniards really apreciate having a beer after a long working day or just because… 😉
Com arribar-hi: To go to desenrocada you have to start walking from where the “Atlantida Club” used to be. From there starts a sandy/rocky trial that follows the train rail in direction of Vilanova i la Geltrú. You’ll have to walk in that direction more or less half and hour untill you see the beach.
Naturist Desenrocada Beach
This naturist beach is one of the most beautiful beaches you can find in Sitges, the only problem is it’s access, that is a little bit difficult. Below the railway line and south of the Atlantis nightclub you’ll find Playa Desenrocada. This beach is also part of a trail that goes from Sitges to Vilanova i la Geltrú. The beach is 90 meters long and an has an average width of 15 m. You can find some services, like one small bar, sun loungers, parasols and there is a defibrillator.
The waters are typically calm and the beach itself is made of golden sand. If you are looking for a sunny day full of relaxation, this is your beach. Although it’s difficult to reach by car, it is only 1 kilometre away from the promenade. Services include sun lounger and umbrella rentals, toilets, and a guingueta.
